Pathfinders

Pathfinders are guides to help you find information on specific topics, both online and from the library. I have created a pathfinder for a project for an Introduction to Reference class, and am providing a link on this blog. In the future I may create more pathfinders and will add them.

Here is the link to the first one. Perimenopause and Menopause Pathfinder I will also provide a link to this and any future pathfinders on the right. I hope you will find it useful.

Project Porchlight

Palliser Regional Libraries were distributing energy efficient CFL lightbulbs to residents throughout Sask. Library Week, through Project Porchlight. Davidson Library was not included because we are to be supplied by a different agency. However, Palliser had some surplus bulbs that they have given to us to distribute.

Please stop by the library and pick up your FREE compact flourescent light bulb -- one per household. Supplies are limited.

Will it break?

Dropping their egg-creations...

Some of them never even survived the invention process, rolling off the tables...

It was a rainy day, and we were few in number, but it seemed that a good time was had, and the rain stopped in time for the outdoor testing of the inventions.

Twilight Saga books are in!

Our books have arrived! We just received Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, the first three books of Stephenie Meyers' Twilight Saga. The fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn, comes out on August 2nd, so if you read fast you might have time to get the first three read before it comes out! Then, if you are between the ages of 13 & 18, you can enter our contest (see post further down) and let us know who you think Bella should end up with... Edward or Jacob? Prize? A fresh-off-the-press copy of Breaking Dawn.

If you're too old to enter the contest, sorry! But you can still read the books -- there are many, many adult readers of the series. {You might want to give the teens a chance to read them first so they can enter the contest, though. ;-) }

We had a great time with storyteller Patty Perry today! How appropriate that her theme was dogs, and we'd planned a hot dog lunch to follow... ;-)

Summer Reading Club off to a great start

Yesterday was our first activity day for the Summer Reading Club. We had 17 kids come out and by the sounds coming from downstairs they seemed to be having a blast! Next week's theme is "Kooky Christmas in July" -- bring the kids out for some crazy fun. (I wonder if Santa will show up?!)

We have 30 kids registered so far, and we hope they do LOTS of reading this summer. Each time a child or teen checks out books, they can enter their name for our weekly prize draws -- one for each category. Each week's winner gets to choose something from our basket of goodies.

Contest for Teens!

You fell in love with the first three books... Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse...

On August 2nd the love story continues with Breaking Dawn.

And Palliser Regional Library is giving away a copy of this fabulous new book to one lucky reader!

To enter the draw, fill out a ballot (available at the library) and vote -- who do YOU think Bella should end up with? Should she spend eternity with Edward? Or live a mortal life with Jacob?

You decide.

** Must be ages 13 - 18 to enter. All ballots must be in by August 26th.

NOTE: If you haven't read this series yet... you need to! Davidson Branch recently purchased the first three and they should be arriving from Headquarters soon -- hopefully the week of July 10th. Check with us to see if they're here, or place a hold on the catalogue.

Book Reviews for everyone

Read a good book lately? Or maybe a bad one! Let us know! Email us a short review, and we'll post it, along with your first name -- unless you wish to remain anonymous, of course.

Not sure what to write? Tell us a bit about the book -- without giving away important plot twists or the ending! -- and let us know why you did or didn't like it. If you don't want to write a review but just want to recommend a good title, you can do that too.

Send your reviews to: davidson@palliser.lib.sk.ca

Teen (Summer) Reading Club ~ "I Liked the Book Better"

For the first time ever, Palliser Regional Library is hosting a Summer Reading Club just for Teens. If you're between the ages 13 - 18, then you're eligible to join. There will be lots of great prizes all summer long, including a Nintendo Wii, a digital camera, and an mp3 player!

The official start date is June 25th, 2008 so you can sign up at any time. Go to the Teen SRC Website and click Create New Account. Then fill in the registration form. Select Palliser Regional Library as your Home Library, and then Davidson from the list. Post book reviews to be eligible for prize draws and chat with other teens from across Canada on the moderated discussion board.

Play the Bingo game at the library and enter for more prizes. (You must be registered online at the TeenSRC site to win.) The last day for submitting online reviews and bingo cards for prizes is August 20th, 2008. But please note: the Teen Reading Club website is functional all year round. You can continue to post reviews even after the summer is over. The draw for the grand prize (Nintendo Wii!) will be on August 29th.

For more information about how to enter for prizes, go to the Palliser Regional Library website: www.palliserlibrary.ca/teensrc.htm
